Gwennie’s Getaways Memory Café provides a warm, friendly and inclusive environment for people living with dementia, their families and carers to come together, socialise and enjoy meaningful activities at The Watershed in Slaithwaite.
The weekly Memory Café offers more than just a place to meet. It provides an opportunity to build friendships, share experiences and connect with others who understand the challenges of living with dementia. We recognise the importance of supporting not only those living with dementia but also their families and carers, helping to create a strong network of friendship, understanding and mutual support.
The café is run by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, many of whom have previous experience working in care, including specialist dementia care.
Each session includes a variety of engaging activities designed to encourage participation, enjoyment and social connection. Members can relax over cups of tea and coffee, enjoy conversation and take part in activities in a supportive, welcoming atmosphere.
A highlight of each session is our delicious two-course lunch, freshly prepared by our fantastic volunteers. Sharing a meal provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with others and enjoy a sense of community.
Beyond our weekly café, we also organise trips, days out and opportunities to attend community events. These activities complement our respite holidays, offering members and their families and carers further opportunities to make memories, develop friendships and enjoy new experiences together.
We understand that every individual and family has different needs. We pride ourselves on providing an inclusive, accessible service and work closely with families to ensure our activities and support are appropriate for each person.
Our Memory Café also offers families and carers the opportunity to meet others in similar circumstances, share experiences and find reassurance in knowing they are not alone.
