    Slawit SHOP!

Our wonderful Heritage Lottery-funded project, SlawitSHOP!, has now come to a close!

Celebrating the centenary of the shops built by John Jagger on Carr Lane in 1925, SlawitSHOP! set out to uncover and preserve the rich social and economic history of Slaithwaite’s shopping parade. Through local research, oral histories, photographs, archive materials and community involvement, we explored the stories of the shops, the people who ran them and the generations who have lived, worked and shopped in the village.

The project brought people of all ages together to discover our local heritage and respond to it creatively through arts activities, workshops, podcasts, storytelling and an exhibition. It has been a mammoth journey, enriched with fascinating stories, treasured memories and unforgettable experiences along the way.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, memories, knowledge and creativity to make SlawitSHOP! such a special project.

The SlawitSHOP! website is now fully up and running! It offers a fantastic resource for discovering more about the shops, the research and the creative responses, preserving these stories for future generations.

Although the project has come to an end, the stories it uncovered live on. We hope you continue to explore, share and enjoy this wonderful piece of Slaithwaite’s heritage.
