Whether you’re new to sewing or looking to develop your existing skills, The School of Sew offers a welcoming space to learn, experiment and bring your creative ideas to life.
Led by designer and maker Lucy Bennett, the School of Sew offers sewing masterclasses, workshops and courses for young people and adults. With over 25 years of experience in design, pattern development and garment making, Lucy brings a wealth of industry knowledge and practical expertise to her teaching.
Lucy’s career has included designing and developing a successful womenswear fashion label, alongside creating clothing and home furnishings. She now shares her experience with learners who want to discover sewing, develop their techniques or take on new creative projects.
Classes focus on building practical skills and developing good sewing techniques, helping learners grow in confidence and become more independent in their work.
Whether you’re learning the basics or refining your skills, Lucy supports you to develop your abilities and progress with your own projects.
The School of Sew offers:
- Sewing masterclasses – opportunities to focus on particular techniques and develop your skills.
- Sewing courses – structured learning in supportive six- or eight-week blocks.
- Creative projects – time to explore ideas, make things and develop your own style.
- Specialist workshops and socials – occasional opportunities to come together, learn something new and share your love of sewing.
Courses usually take place on Monday evenings or Saturday mornings, with additional workshops and social sessions arranged according to interest.
Lucy has been running classes and courses in the aptly named Bobbin Room at The Watershed for several years, supporting a growing community of skilled and enthusiastic sewists.
